Colby-Sawyer student-athlete Rasheed Foster was named North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Track Athlete of the Year on May 16.

Colby-Sawyer student-athlete Karl Nyholm of Concord, Mass., was named North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Field Athlete of the Year on May 16.

Colby-Sawyer College recognizes students for outstanding academic achievement during the 2016 spring semester. To qualify for the Dean's List, students must achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours in graded courses.

On Saturday, May 7, Colby-Sawyer College celebrated its 178th Commencement, recognizing students and other individuals for academic excellence, outstanding contributions to society, and service to the college and community.

The Colby-Sawyer Award is given to the senior who, in the opinion of the faculty, best exemplifies the ideals of the college in personal dignity, intellectual growth, contribution to campus life and constructive influence on other students.

The Class of 2016 Commencement Speaker Medal is presented to a student who represents the character of the graduating class and will give an inspirational and engaging speech that represents the college's values and learning outcomes.

Baccalaureate awards are presented to the graduating students in each baccalaureate program who are selected by the faculty for their interest and excellence within the major. Recipients must be full-time students and have completed at least 50 percent of their credits for graduation while attending Colby-Sawyer.

The David H. Winton Baccalaureate Award is presented to the baccalaureate degree graduate or graduates who rank highest in scholarship among those in the graduating class.

The Wesson Honors Program provides intensive academic, cultural and social opportunities for the most motivated and capable Colby-Sawyer students who combine a solid work ethic and natural ability with intellectual curiosity.

The Graduate Award is presented each spring to the member of the graduating class whose character and influence most constructively affected the majority of the junior class members. The recipient of this award is chosen by the junior class.

The capstone experience is interdisciplinary and differs for each student. In the capstone each graduating student demonstrates his or her knowledge by effectively communicating that knowledge to others during the Susan Colby Colgate Scholars' Symposium.

The Colby-Sawyer Women's Tennis team, comprised of 12 student-athletes, is led by Head Coach Barry Schoonmaker and Assistant Coaches Jen (LaChance) Taylor '10 and Elizabeth Lincoln. The team won their fourth straight NAC/NEAC Crossover Championship on Sunday, May 8.

The Colby-Sawyer Men's Tennis team earned a fourth straight North Atlantic Conference/North Eastern Athletic Conference Crossover Championship title on Sunday, May 8.

The Barbara Johnson Stearns Award honors a member of the senior class who best demonstrates exemplary leadership and dedication to the college community. The award was established in 1982 by Barbara Johnson Stearns, a member of the Class of 1932, who was an outstanding example of the characteristics she chose to support and reinforce in others.

This award was established in memory of Ann Gulick '54, by her classmates. It is presented to the sophomore student who best exemplifies, through voluntary service, the qualities of reliability, loyalty, and unselfishness. The recipient of this award is chosen by vote of the sophomore class.

The Senior Achievement Award is presented each year to a graduate who has distinguished himself or herself through leadership in the co-curricular life of the college. The recipient of this award is nominated by faculty and staff.

Awards are presented by the college each spring to the sophomore and junior students who rank highest in scholarship in the appropriate class. The recipients of these awards must be full-time students who have completed at least 50 percent of their credits at Colby-Sawyer College.

This award is granted to the student or students who have distinguished themselves through the exercise of spiritual and/or moral leadership in the college community, or through academic work informed by their religious commitments.

The Colby-Sawyer College Honor Society for Nursing is dedicated the improving the health of people worldwide by increasing the scientific base of nursing practice. Members must have a GPA of 3.0, rank in the top 35 percent of their graduating class, meet the expectation of academic integrity, and obtain faculty endorsements.

The purpose of this national honor society in psychology is to encourage, stimulate and maintain excellence in scholarship and to advance the science of psychology. Members must rank in the top 35 percent of the class, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in psychology courses. They must have completed at least three college semesters and nine credits of psychology courses and be enrolled in a program of study with strong psychological content.

The international honor society in business, management and administration honors the academic excellence and integrity of business administration majors. Members must rank in the top 20 percent of the senior class or the top ten percent of the junior class, have a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.0, and show a record of academic honesty and integrity. Sigma beta Delta members are expected to embrace its principles of wisdom, honorable service and the pursuit of meaningful aspirations.

The purpose of Iota Tau Alpha Honor Society is to promote, recognize and encourage outstanding scholarly achievement of students enrolled in the athletic training education major. Members must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and rank in the top 35 percent of their class. Honor cords of red, yellow and blue are worn by graduates.

The college's chapter of this national honor society in communication studies fosters and rewards outstanding scholastic achievement in the field of communication. Members must have completed 60 credit hours, with 12 in communication studies courses, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, a minimum GPA of 3.25 in communication studies courses, and rank in the top 30 percent of their class.

The Colby-Sawyer College chapter of this national honor society recognizes the academic achievement of juniors and seniors. To be eligible for membership a student must rank in the top ten percent of the junior or senior class and demonstrate the Alpha Chi values of truth and character.

The Alpha Chi Award is given to one or more graduating students who, in the eyes of the members of Alpha Chi, best exemplifies the ideas of the society - truth and character - through work at the college in support of chapter activities.

The Guy Floyd Williams Award is presented to a graduating science major who has helped to maintain and perpetuate the ideals of the college during the graduate's years at Colby-Sawyer and who, through appropriate conduct, scholarship and decorum, has exemplified the spirit of the college.

Mardia Cooper won the New Hampshire Writer's Project's first ever student essay competition on Saturday, April 23, a prize worth $1,000.

Four students at Colby-Sawyer College's School of Health Professions presented their capstone project at the annual New Hampshire Public Health Association meeting in Concord, N.H.

Mardia Cooper '17 won the open mic poetry contest at the annual Writer's Day hosted by the N.H. Writer's Project in Manchester, N.H., on Saturday, April 23.

Five Colby-Sawyer senior nursing students completed a research project in conjuction with the Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic in Tampa, Fla. Associate Professor of Nursing and Public Health Shari Goldberg, Ph.D., R.N., served as supervisor to the students.
