Colby-Sawyer College

Led by Head Coach Emily Rinde-Thorsen and Assistant Coach Emily Hoar, the team is comprised of 24 student-athletes.

Alpha Chi is a national honor society that promotes academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students. Its name derives from the initials of the Greek words ALETHEIA (truth) and CAPAKTHP (character).

The Colby-Sawyer College Men's cross country team travels throughout New England competing in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC). Led by Head Coach Lyndsay Bisaccio and Assistant Coaches Lisa Lacombe, Walt Chadwick and Jesse Socci, the team is comprised of 11 student-athletes.

The North Atlantic Conference (NAC) is an athletic conference, affiliated with the NCAA 's Division III, consisting primarily of small liberal arts colleges throughout New England, including: Castleton State College, Colby-Sawyer College, University of Maine at Farmington, Green Mountain College, Husson University, Johnson State College, Lyndon State College, Maine Maritime Academy, New England College, Thomas College.

On Wednesday, Sept. 30, public health majors participated in roundtable presentations featuring summer internship experiences.

Colby-Sawyer is pleased to announce students selected as inaugural members of The Presidential Blue Key Society (PBKS). Chosen to embody and inspire the learning spirit of Colby-Sawyer, the students will be formally recognized at the Presidential Blue Key Society Induction Ceremony during Alumni Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 17.

Students in the Sustainability Core Club took on the throwaway culture by salvaging items discarded last spring and selling them back to students at the second annual ReChargers Resale on Saturday, Sept. 7.

The following people recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

The Study Abroad program at Colby-Sawyer provides students the opportunity to acquire broad cultural knowledge and practical skills which will enable them to participate fully in a global society and to contribute to the internationalization of the Colby-Sawyer campus through academically demanding international programs.

Led by Head Coach Craig Wilkinson and Assistant Coach Alex Ortega, the Colby-Sawyer College men's soccer team is comprised of 31 student athletes including 19 first-year students, eight sophomores, three juniors and one senior.

Led by Head Coach Meghan Medbery and Assistant Coaches Shay Spencer and Sarah Little, the team is comprised of 28 student-athletes including six first-year students, ten sophomores, seven juniors and five seniors.

Internships are field experiences designed to provide a student learning opportunity under collaborative supervision between Colby-Sawyer College faculty, staff, and work site professionals. Internships offer the opportunity for students to enhance their academic programs with work experience related to career interests in all industry areas in national and international settings.

The Alpha Chi Award is given to one or more graduating students who, in the eyes of the members of Alpha Chi, best exemplifies the ideas of the society - truth and character - through work at the college in support of chapter activities.

The Richard Crosby Memorial Award was established in 1976 in honor of Professor Crosby, a member of the English Department from 1952 to 1976. The award is given to a student who excels in the knowledge and appreciation of British literature.

The purpose of this national honor society in psychology is to encourage, stimulate and maintain excellence in scholarship and to advance the science of psychology. Members must rank in the top 35 percent of the class, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in psychology courses. They must have completed at least three college semesters and nine credits of psychology courses and be enrolled in a program of study with strong psychological content.

The Guy Floyd Williams Award is presented to a graduating science major who has helped to maintain and perpetuate the ideals of the college during the graduate's years at Colby-Sawyer and who, through appropriate conduct, scholarship and decorum, has exemplified the spirit of the college.

The international honor society in business, management and administration honors the academic excellence and integrity of business administration majors. Members must rank in the top 20 percent of the senior class or the top ten percent of the junior class, have a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.0, and show a record of academic honesty and integrity. Sigma beta Delta members are expected to embrace its principles of wisdom, honorable service and the pursuit of meaningful aspirations.

The gift of a member of the class of 1932, this award is granted to a female student in the liberal arts program who is continuing her education toward a bachelor's degree. The recipient is selected on the basis of scholarship, character, future goals, and need.

The Wesson Honors Program provides intensive academic, cultural and social opportunities for the most motivated and capable Colby-Sawyer students who combine a solid work ethic and natural ability with intellectual curiosity.

This award was established in memory of Ann Gulick '54, by her classmates. It is presented to the sophomore student who best exemplifies, through voluntary service, the qualities of reliability, loyalty, and unselfishness. The recipient of this award is chosen by vote of the sophomore class.

The Class of 2015 Commencement Speaker Medal is presented to a student who represents the character of the graduating class and will give an inspirational and engaging speech that represents the college's values and learning outcomes.

The college's chapter of this national honor society in communication studies fosters and rewards outstanding scholastic achievement in the field of communication. Members must have completed 60 credit hours, with 12 in communication studies courses, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, a minimum GPA of 3.25 in communication studies courses, and rank in the top 30 percent of their class.

Awards are presented by the college each spring to the sophomore and junior students who rank highest in scholarship in the appropriate class. The recipients of these awards must be full-time students who have completed at least fifty percent of their credits at Colby-Sawyer College.

The Senior Achievement Award is presented each year to a graduate who has distinguished himself or herself through leadership in the co-curricular life of the college. The recipient of this award is nominated by faculty and staff.

The Barbara Johnson Stearns Award honors a member of the senior class who best demonstrates exemplary leadership and dedication to the college community. The award was established in 1982 by Barbara Johnson Stearns, a member of the Class of 1932, who was an outstanding example of the characteristics she chose to support and reinforce in others.

This award is granted to the student or students who have distinguished themselves through the exercise of spiritual and/or moral leadership in the college community, or through academic work informed by their religious commitments.

The Colby-Sawyer College Honor Society for Nursing is dedicated the improving the health of people worldwide by increasing the scientific base of nursing practice. Members must have a GPA of 3.0, rank in the top 35 percent of their graduating class, meet the expectation of academic integrity, and obtain faculty endorsements.

The Capstone experience differs from major to major, but its purpose is to ensure that all seniors demonstrate their accumulated knowledge through action and effectively communicate their knowledge and actions to others in an interdisciplinary setting.

Baccalaureate awards are presented to the graduating students in each baccalaureate program who are selected by the faculty for their interest and excellence within the major. Recipients must be full-time students and have completed at least 50 percent of their credits for graduation while attending Colby-Sawyer.
