Colby-Sawyer College

Colby-Sawyer College recognizes 259 students for outstanding academic achievement during the 2020 spring semester. To qualify for the Dean's List, students must achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours in graded courses.

As the college's largest annual art exhibtion, the Gladys Greenbaum Meyers '39 Juried Student Art Exhibition features student work in a variety of disciplines, including ceramics, graphic design, drawing, painting, printmaking, photography and mixed media.

Recognized with the New Hampshire Presidents' Leadership Award for outstanding community service, service learning and civic engagement at Colby-Sawyer. The award is presented annually to a student or student organization that has made service an integral part of their college experience as evidenced through their contribution to the community.

The Newman Civic Fellowship is a yearlong program for students from Campus Compact member institutions, which include colleges and universities from 39 states, Washington, D.C., Greece, Lebanon and Mexico. Selected students are campus leaders who demonstrate a commitment to finding solutions for challenges facing communities locally, nationally and internationally. Class Board officers promote class unity and communicate with their class; address class issues or bring issues to the Student Government Association; plan and implement class activities; initiate fundraising to support class programming; and fill Student Government Association senator vacancies.

Colby-Sawyer senior Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) has been named to the 2019-20 Academic All-District Division III Women's Basketball Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Internships are field experiences designed to provide a student learning opportunity under collaborative supervision between Colby-Sawyer faculty, staff, and work site professionals. Internships offer opportunities for students to enhance their academic programs with work experience related to career interests in all industry areas in national and international settings.

The Colby-Sawyer College chapter of the national honor society recognizes the academic achievement of juniors and seniors. To be eligible for membership a student must rank in the top ten percent of the junior or senior class and demonstrate the Alpha Chi values of truth and character.

The BOLD Women's Leadership Network is a highly selective national program of first-generation, female scholars from rural locations in northern New England who are in good standing at the college. The network supports colleges led by women presidents that have demonstrated a commitment to collaboration, innovation, diversity and inclusion.

Colby-Sawyer is pleased to announce the newest members of the Presidential Blue Key Society (PBKS). Selected to embody and inspire the learning spirit of Colby-Sawyer, the students celebrated their induction into the society at a luncheon hosted by President Susan D. Stuebner.

Colby-Sawyer College students and faculty presented research findings at the 2019 New Hampshire IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (NH-INBRE) Annual Meeting at the Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, N.H. Supported by an Institutional Development Award (IDeA) from the National Institutes of Health, the IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence is a federal grant program that promotes the development, coordination and sharing of biomedical research resources within 24 states. NH-INBRE is a partnership among eight institutions, including Colby-Sawyer College, the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and the University of New Hampshire. The annual meeting is its largest networking event, providing students the opportunity to connect and exchange ideas with representatives from other institutions as well as access to career resources.

Colby-Sawyer students from across majors along with Social Sciences & Education faculty members participated in the Carnival of Courage: Under the Sea Edition at the Newport Recreation Center on Sunday, April 14. Organized by the Child Development Club, the service-learning program featured fun, developmentally appropriate activities focused on fine and gross motor skills, including arts and crafts, sensory bins, magnetic fishing and face painting.

Colby-Sawyer celebrated its 181st Commencement on Saturday, May 11, awarding approximately 185 undergraduate degrees and recognizing students and other individuals for academic excellence, outstanding contributions to society, and service to the college and community.

The Colby-Sawyer Award is given to the senior who, in the opinion of the faculty, best exemplifies the ideals of the college in personal dignity, intellectual growth, contribution to campus life and constructive influence on other students.

The 77th Eastern New England Biological Conference is an opportunity for biology majors to showcase research to fellow undergraduates from more than 40 member institutions. The conference features oral presentations, poster sessions, awards and a keynote lecture.

Presented by the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, the Free Enterprise Marathon is a collegiate-level competition encourages students to become better informed about the importance of free enterprise and rewards students' creativity and innovativeness.
