Theresa Edick Named 2016 Newman Civic Fellow

2016 Apr 4

Colby-Sawyer College student Theresa Edick, a resident of Dublin, N.H., has been named a 2016 Newman Civic Fellow by Campus Compact, a Boston-based not-for-profit focused on public service and higher education. Edick, a member of the class of 2018, will receive a certificate of accomplishment and gain access to the Newman Civic Fellows online network, which will connect her to 217 other fellows from institutions around the country.

Edick majors in environmental studies with a focus on sustainability. She has been active on Colby-Sawyer's campus serving as president of the Community Service Club and Alternative Spring Break Club. An orientation leader last year, she hopes to be selected once again this summer. Edick is also a Colby-Sawyer student ambassador, giving tours of the campus to prospective students and speaking with them and their families over lunch.

"Not only has Theresa helped to execute projects, but she has also educated her peers about the importance of giving back and making connections with others in our community," said Colby-Sawyer President Thomas C. Galligan Jr in nominating Edick for the fellowship. "Her positive nature rubs off on those around her."

The Newman Civic Fellows are named after the late Frank Newman, a founder of Campus Compact and proponent of higher education's role in preparing active citizens. The program has been awarded in his honor since 2011.
