Rebecca Hashem Received the 2016 Colby-Sawyer Award

2016 May 11

Rebecca "Becca" Hashem of Webster, N.H., received the 2016 Colby-Sawyer Award during the 178th Colby-Sawyer College Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 7.

A summa cum laude student, Becca is also an active member of the Colby-Sawyer community. She was a captain of both the Women's Field Hockey and Track and Field teams, and she was a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee for three years, including as vice president her senior year.

According to Lyndsay Bisaccio, head Track and Field coach, Becca is the epitome of a student-athlete. "She always put her schoolwork first and still found time for the hard work and determination required to be a top-level NCAA Division III athlete," she said.

A member of the Alpha Chi National Honors Society, Becca was named to the Dean's List and Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges every semester. She was a Student Government Association officer for three years. Additionally, Becca has been a teacher's assistant and mentored many nursing students, paying it forward through every step of her journey.

"Becca has accessed all that Colby-Sawyer has to offer a developing young professional in terms of academics and co-curricular activities," wrote a nominator on behalf of the School of Health Professions. "She is emerging into the world as a confident, collegial and poised graduate nurse. The health care organization that employs her is going to be lucky, indeed."

Becca has worked as a licensed nursing assistant at New London Hospital and in a summer clinical externship with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. She will begin work at DHMC this summer as part of the orthopedic, trauma and plastics medical/surgical unit.
