Rebecca Hashem Graduates from Colby-Sawyer College
2016 May 11
A summa cum laude graduate, Hashem was the recipient
of the 2016 Colby-Sawyer Award given to the senior who, in the opinion of the
faculty, best exemplifies the ideals of the college in personal dignity,
intellectual growth, contribution to campus life and constructive influence on
other students.
“Becca has accessed all that Colby-Sawyer has to
offer a developing young professional in terms of academics and co-curricular
activities,” wrote a nominator on behalf of the School of Health Professions.
“She is emerging into the world as a confident, collegial and poised graduate
nurse. The health care organization that employs her is going to be lucky,
indeed.”
An active
member of the Colby-Sawyer community, Hashem was a captain of both the Women’s
Field Hockey and Track and Field teams, and was a member of the Student Athlete
Advisory Committee for three years, including as vice president her senior
year.
According to
Lyndsay Bisaccio, head Track and Field coach, Hashem is the epitome of a
student-athlete. “She always put her schoolwork first and still found time for
the hard work and determination required to be a top-level NCAA Division III
athlete,” she said.
A member of the Alpha Chi National Honors Society and the
Colby-Sawyer Nursing Honor Society, Hashem was named to the Dean’s List and Who’s Who Among Students in American
Universities and Colleges every
semester. She was a Student Government Association officer for three years.
Additionally, Hashem has been a teacher’s assistant and mentored many nursing
students.
Hashem has
worked as a licensed nursing assistant at New London Hospital and in a summer
clinical externship with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. She will begin
work at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center this summer as part of the
orthopedic, trauma and plastics medical/surgical unit.
