Rachel Quaye Named Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year Award

2015 May 4

Rachel Quaye, a member of the women's soccer and indoor/outdoor track & field teams, received the Charger Award for this year's Outstanding Female Athlete on Monday, April 27 at the Senior Awards Banquet. The award is given to a female who has extraordinary athletic ability and has contributed the most to her team, the College and the world of sport. The award is a token of hard work, good judgment, understanding and determination.

In the fall, Quaye was a member of the women's soccer team that won its second straight North Atlantic Conference championship. Quaye and the Chargers have not lost a conference game in the two years she has been a member of the team. She was tied for the team lead with seven goals and was second in points with 17. Two of her goals were game-winners, which included the lone goal in a 1-0 win over New England College in the NAC semifinals. Quaye was named to the All-NAC First Team.

In the inaugural indoor track & field season, Quaye led the women's team as the record holder in the 60m hurdles, long jump, shot put, weight throw, pentathlon and as a member of the 4 x 200m relay team. Quaye qualified for New England's and ECAC's in the shot put, 4 x 200 and the pentathlon. She finished eighth in the pentathlon to earn All-New England honors. As the team's only female qualifier at the ECAC Championship, Quaye entered the meet ranked 11th out of 12 and finished 7th to earn All-ECAC accolades, showing her ability to compete well when the competition stakes are raised.

In the outdoor season thus far, Quaye has earned NAC Athlete-of-the-Week three times and qualified for New England's in three events (shot put, javelin and the heptathlon) and ECACs in the shot put and javelin.
