Rachel Quaye Named NAC Women's Field Athlete of the Year

Colby-Sawyer College student-athlete Rachel Quaye of Westminster, Mass., was named Women's Field Athlete of the Year on May 16 by the North Atlantic Conference (NAC). Quaye majors in Business Administration and is a member of the class of 2017.

Quaye has had an impressive showing this season. The junior recorded one first-place finish and three second-place finishes at the NAC Championships, as she took home NAC Champion honors in the javelin and runner-up honors in the 100m hurdles, shot put, and discus. Notably, Quaye is ranked regionally in four events including being ranked sixth (New England) in the heptathlon, ninth (New England) and 20th (ECAC) in the shot put, 16th (New England) and 32nd (ECAC) in the javelin, and 30th (New England) in the discus. The junior also claimed two NAC Field Athlete of the Week honors this season. Most recently, Quaye collected impressive finishes at the New England Championship, taking home third in the heptathlon with 3848 points and seventh in the shot put to earn All-New England accolades. In the shot put, Quaye achieved a distance of 11.48m. Highlighting her heptathlon events were a pair of victories, as she won the shot put with a throw of 12.40m and the javelin with a heave of 36.37m, which was more than eight meters farther than second place.

The NAC is an athletic conference, affiliated with the NCAA 's Division III, consisting primarily of small liberal arts colleges throughout New England, including: Castleton State College, Colby-Sawyer College, University of Maine at Farmington, Green Mountain College, Husson University, Johnson State College, Lyndon State College, Maine Maritime Academy, New England College, Thomas College.
