Morgan Forrest Selected as Member of the Colby-Sawyer College Presidential Blue Key Society

2015 Oct 13

Colby-Sawyer is pleased to announce that Morgan Forrest of Brewer, Maine has been selected as an inaugural member of The Presidential Blue Key Society (PBKS). Chosen to embody and inspire the learning spirit of Colby-Sawyer, the ten students selected will be formally recognized at the Presidential Blue Key Society Induction Ceremony during Alumni Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 17.

Forrest is a member of the Class of 2018 majoring in Business Administration.

The PBKS is a revival and expansion of the Key Club, an organization initially established as a club for campus tour guides in the 1940s that was discontinued at the turn of the century. The decision to reinstate the organization in a broader capacity was the result of an objective to empower student leaders to share their learning experiences with other students as well as the internal and external community.

An invitation to apply for membership was announced last spring; interested students were asked to submit an essay that demonstrated their commitment to the mission of the college and documentation of least 30 hours of voluntary service for, or on behalf of, Colby-Sawyer. A minimum GPA was also required and must be maintained throughout their affiliation.

Society members will act as ambassadors on campus and beyond, formally and informally, by serving on admissions panels, connecting with alumni and offering students' perspectives at select Board of Trustees events. Members will be invited to participate in a monthly colloquium series led by campus leaders which will provide them with a comprehensive understanding of higher education. Each member will also be matched with an alumni mentor.

"The inaugural Presidential Blue Key Society inductees are diverse in background, interests, goals, and character. But they have two things in common: a love for lifelong learning and an inspirational desire to share their Colby-Sawyer experience," said Director of Student Success and Retention Kim Sauerwein, a leader in the effort to recreate and restructure the organization. "We couldn't have asked for better ambassadors!"
