Kelsey Cahill Named Wynne Jesser McGrew Scholar-Athlete

Kelsey Cahill, a member of the the women's basketball team, earned the Wynne Jesser McGrew Scholar-Athlete Award. The award is presented each year to the graduating female senior who, in the opinion of the Athletic Advisory Council, has made significant contributions to both the scholastic and varsity programs of the College.

Cahill is a senior Business Administration major with a concentration in Marketing. She also has been awarded a Human Resource Certificate. Cahill graduates from Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday, May 9.

Cahill has been honored for her fine academic achievements with the following honors:

  • Dean's List every semester
  • Alpha Chi Associate Honors Society: 2012-present
  • 2014 member of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges
  • Member of Sigma Beta Delta- International Honor Society in Business, Management and Administration
  • Named to the 2013-14 Winter/Spring NAC All-Academic team
  • Member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee

She has been as successful on the basketball court as she was in the classroom. This season Cahill ranked highly on the team and in the NAC. For the season Cahill:

  • Led the team in scoring (12.0 ppg)
  • Was second on the team and fourth in the NAC in rebounding (7.8 rpg)
  • Led the team and was second in the NAC in steals (74)
  • Led Colby-Sawyer and the NAC in blocks (42) -She was named to play in the NEWBA Senior All-Star game
  • Was named NAC Defensive Player of the Year and Second Team All-Conference
  • Was named NAC Player of the Week four times
  • Was named team MVP for the second straight year

Cahill's senior year was a culmination of an outstanding four-year career as a member of the women's basketball team at Colby-Sawyer. She leaves Colby-Sawyer ranked in the top seven all-time in women's basketball history in six different categories. Those rankings take place on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court. Her phenomenal career resulted in the following:

  • Ranks 7th in career points (1,214)
  • Ranks 7th in career field goals (472)
  • Ranks 6th in made free throws (270)
  • Ranks 3rd in career rebounds (886)
  • Ranks 5th in career blocks (137)
  • Ranks 2nd in career steals (256)

"Kelsey has been the epitome of the term "student-athlete" during her time here at Colby-Sawyer," said Women's Basketball Head Coach George Martin. "She has taken full advantage of all that Colby-Sawyer could offer her. She excelled in the classroom and still found the time to be an outstanding member of the women's basketball team. She will be greatly missed, fondly remembered, and spoken of often as an example of how I would like my future athletes to play, conduct themselves in the classroom, and to act as an individual."
