Jesse Socci Named Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

2015 May 5

Jesse Socci, a member of the outdoor track & field team, received the Male Scholar-Athlete Award. The award is presented each year to the graduating male senior who, in the opinion of the Athletic Advisory Council, has made significant contributions to both the scholastic and varsity programs of the College.

Socci, a Sport Management major with a coaching certification, helped other students achieve success as a Teaching Assistant during this school year. He is well-revered by his professors and his classmates and is known for his hard work and dedication.

Athletically, Socci has participated in outdoor track & field all four years, serving as the captain for three of those seasons. He also competed in the inaugural indoor track & field season, which he was an instrumental part of bringing to Colby-Sawyer Athletics. He is the indoor and outdoor shot put record holder, as well as, the indoor weight throw record holder. This year, he qualified for both the Indoor New England Championship and the Indoor ECAC Championship. He also qualified for the Outdoor New England Championship.

Most would think that those accomplishments are enough to keep a student busy, but Jesse has gone above and beyond in numerous other areas on campus. He has served as part of the Student Government Association, as the Vice-President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and as the President and Co-Founder of the Sport Management Club.

As a result of all of his dedication and commitment to the campus, he has also been awarded the Colby-Sawyer Award, which he will be presented at the upcoming Commencement Ceremony on May 9. The award is given to the senior who exemplifies the college's ideals of personal dignity, intellectual growth and contributions to campus life. No one fits this description better than Jesse.

"This is what DIII athletics is all about--allowing athletes to excel in the classroom, in competition and as leaders across campus," said Cross Country and Track & Field Head Coach Lyndsay Bisaccio. "Jesse is the true epitome of the term student-athlete. Jesse is an athlete who has truly been a privilege to coach. He excels in everything he does across this campus, whether it is his academics, athletics or one of the many other extracurricular activities that he takes part in."
