Gustav Jigrup Named NAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year

Colby-Sawyer student-athlete Gustav Jigrup of Gothenburg, Sweden, was named North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Tennis Player of the Year on April 28. Jigrup is a member of the class of 2018 and majors in Business Administration.

Jigrup has had an impressive sophomore campaign recording an 11-3 overall mark in singles, 9-3 at No. 1 and 2-0 at No. 3, so far this season. In conference action, he went a perfect 5-0 at the top-flight in singles and 4-0 at No. 1 doubles and 1-0 at No. 2 doubles. One of his most impressive conference victories was his 7-5, 6-4 win over Green Mountain's Connor Braden, as he gave the Eagles' top player his first and only loss of the season. Jigrup has also been stellar out of conference helping his team claim wins over two Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rivals. He earned his team a point at No. 3 singles to lead Colby-Sawyer to a 6-3 win over the CCC's top team, Nichols, which was the first time in seven years that the Chargers have beaten the Bison.

Most recently, Jigrup claimed a victory over Gordon's No. 1, who currently sits at 13-2, to help his team earn a 5-4 victory. The sophomore has also claimed some impressive out of division singles victories, as he beat two Division II players, Bentley's No. 1 and Southern New Hampshire's No. 3, while also earning a win against Division I Siena's top-player, leading Colby-Sawyer to a 4-3 victory.

The NAC is an athletic conference, affiliated with the NCAA 's Division III, consisting primarily of small liberal arts colleges throughout New England, including: Castleton State College, Colby-Sawyer College, University of Maine at Farmington, Green Mountain College, Husson University, Johnson State College, Lyndon State College, Maine Maritime Academy, New England College, Thomas College.
