Film Club President Abhineet Kumar '16 Hosts 'Being John Malkovich'

2014 Feb 18

Colby-Sawyer Student Film Club President Abhineet Kumar '16 hosts the Cultural Events Committee monthly film and discussion series on Monday, March 3 at 7 p.m. in Clements Hall at the Ivey Science Center. 'Being John Malkovich' is free and open to the public. Directed by Spike Jonze, the 1999 American comedy-fantasy features an all-star cast, including John Cusack, Cameron Diaz, Catherine Keener and John Malkovich, who construct the tale of a puppeteer who finds a portal into actor John Malkovich's mind. The film is rated-R and has a running time of 112 minutes.

A self-proclaimed film enthusiast, Kumar believes 'Being John Malkovich' is a cinematic journey that "speaks to the average man and woman" while entertaining them and making them think. "It should be a great experience for anyone interested in film, art, psychology or just people in general," says Kumar. "A film with such originality and thought-provoking ideas will incite a wonderful discussion. It explores our insecurities, fears and desires all through incredibly believable characters and a beautifully original story."

The film and discussion series continues on Monday, April 7 with 'Vagabond' hosted by Associate Professor of Humanities Melissa Meade Ph.D.
