Emily Lopez Named NAC Women's Track Athlete of the Year

Colby-Sawyer College student-athlete Emily Lopez of Lincolnville, Maine, was named Women's Track Athlete of the Year on May 16 by the North Atlantic Conference (NAC). Lopez majors in Environmental Science and is a member of the class of 2017.

Lopez has had an incredible junior season for the Chargers. At the NAC Championship, she placed in the top-six in seven events, as she claimed three first-place finishes in the 400m, 800m, and the high jump. Her and her teammates also claimed two second-place finishes at the conference championship in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, while Lopez earned a fifth-place finish in the long jump and a sixth-place finish in the 200m. She recorded seven other top-five finishes this season and earned NAC Track Athlete of the Week twice. Most recently, Lopez broke two school records at the New England Championship. She broke her own record in the 800m with a time of 2:18.81 to place her 14th and qualified her for the ECAC Championships. Lopez also competed in the high jump and came away tied for 19th after a height of 1.49m. Lopez, along with her teammates, also set a school record in the 4x800m relay, as the team combined for a time of 9:53.89, smashing the previous mark of 10:18.60 set in 2014 and qualifying for the ECAC Championship.

The NAC is an athletic conference, affiliated with the NCAA 's Division III, consisting primarily of small liberal arts colleges throughout New England, including: Castleton State College, Colby-Sawyer College, University of Maine at Farmington, Green Mountain College, Husson University, Johnson State College, Lyndon State College, Maine Maritime Academy, New England College, Thomas College.
