Amanda Martin Named NAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Rookie of the Year

Colby-Sawyer College first-year student Amanda Martin, a Nursing major from Amesbury, Mass., has been selected as the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Women's Outdoor Track and Field Rookie of the Year of May 16.

Martin has had a standout rookie season for the Chargers. The freshman posted six top-four finishes at the NAC Championship, including a first-place finish in the 400m. Her and her teammates claimed two second-place finishes at the conference championship in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, while Martin took second in the 800m and the triple jump and fourth place in the long jump. Her PR's this season include a time of 1:02.65 in the 400m, a time of 2:25.56 in the 800m, a distance of 10.41m in the triple jump and a distance of 4.78m in the long jump. Martin claimed three other top-five finishes this season and was selected as the NAC Rookie of the Week twice. Most recently at the New England Championship, Martin, along Lopez and two other teammates, set a school record in the 4x800m relay, as the team combined for a time of 9:53.89, smashing the previous mark of 10:18.60 set in 2014 and qualifying for the ECAC Championship.

The NAC is an athletic conference, affiliated with the NCAA 's Division III, consisting primarily of small liberal arts colleges throughout New England, including: Castleton State College, Colby-Sawyer College, University of Maine at Farmington, Green Mountain College, Husson University, Johnson State College, Lyndon State College, Maine Maritime Academy, New England College, Thomas College.
